† VHS SPECTRE † As a fan and maker of Broken Transmission music, I can honestly say few albums in that genre have grabbed me as much as this one has. This might not only be one of my favorites of 2022, but it very well may be one the greatest Broken Transmission albums of all time. Memory Leak's use of tape manipulation really harkens back to the works of Cameron Day and Ecco Unlimited, but going a step further by collaging various unrelated bits of audio to a supremely surreal and haunting effect. Favorite track: Marbled Godwit.

I'm coming out as a transgender woman with this release. Memory Leaks Onto The Rug used to be the result of myself hitting some threshold of self-denial about who I was. Back then, I don’t feel I ever consciously thought “I’m going to make some music” but it was rather some automatic response and absolute need to get lost in the world of cassette tapes as a way to deny my own existence.

Now I can make music with a positive, intentional mindset. 2020’s “Self-Acceptance Trio” was my first time making music since coming out to myself. This release, “Dead Monitor Reflection”, marks my first time recording after starting hormone therapy.

Anyways thanks for reading / listening. ps: I’ve got plans to release several unreleased tapes recorded between 2016-2019 because they’ve been weighing on me.

Recorded January 16th 2021 direct to cassette.
Refined and extracted January 2021-June 2022.
